Registration for Pilgrims who wish to attend the 2012 Eucharistic Congress in Dublin is now open on the IEC website.

The 50th International Eucharistic Congress will take place in Dublin, 10th – 17th June 2012. Up to 15,000 international pilgrims are expected to attend.

Over the past two years, many Diocese, Parishes and Religious Organisation have been busy preparing to welcome this great event to Ireland. Preparations are well underway including a National Eucharistic Congress on 25th/26th June 2011 which will see up to 15,000 people gather in Knock.

Universae Ecclesiae asks for both Forms to be respected

It’s nearly a week since the Vatican announced its new document which clarifies outstanding issues from Summorum Pontificum, we had been hoping to post more last week but things have been really busy here lately…so here goes.

The clarifications in Universae Ecclesiae were never going to satisfy everyone but it actually was a very good document. In the first case because it was the end of the 3 year trial period of SP, the Church as a whole has to regard the two forms of the Roman Rite as equal and that they live side by side.

There are those who don’t agree of course, but it is perhaps obvious in a certain sense that the two forms coexist. This is also a major step in the ‘Reform of the Reform’ which has become Pope Benedict’s ‘Marshall Plan’ for the renewal of Catholic identity.

Universae Ecclesiae: The long awaited instruction is out Friday

A wee bit behind on the news, but the Vatican announced today that the instruction on Summorum Pontificum will be released Friday 13th May, Feast of Our Lady of Fatima.

It is still unclear as what the new instruction will bring, but Fr. Z. et al are reporting that it won’t be a ‘perfect game’ but will be a ‘No hitter’ which is a baseball term for something which seemingly is very good!

The title of the new document is Universae Ecclesiae, Universal Church…so not for one group of individuals then.

Pope did not use glass Chalice in Venice

The Holy Father has been visiting Venice and other cities in the North East of Italy this weekend. Many reports started circulating in the past few days stating that the Chalice to be used for Sunday Mass would be made of glass.

The Chalice and Paten was the gift of glass makers from Venice. However when the moment actually arrived, the Holy Father was presented with a metal Chalice & Paten.

Redemptionis Sacramentum clearly states that glass is not to be used, among other materials, for sacred vessels at Mass.

We’re back…

What a busy couple of weeks we have had, with a lot going on here I just didn’t have time to post anything. We have seen Holy Week, the Beatification, and now the Holy Father’s Pastoral Visit to Venice.

More details have also been released regarding the National Eucharistic Congress to be held in June in Knock. On Saturday 25th June a national celebration will be held in the Basilica at 3.00pm. The following day, 26th June Solemnity of Corpus Christi, each Diocese will hold a Diocesan celebration of the National Congress. What is happening in your Diocese? RTE to film Drogheda May Procession

The Annual May Day Procession in Drogheda will be filmed by RTE this year. The annual Eucharistic Procession in honour of Our Lady & St Joseph the Worker will take place on Sunday 1st May at 1.45pm.

The Procession will begin at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Drogheda and proceed through the town towards St Peter’s Church.

The Procession will be followed by Divine Mercy Devotions, Holy Hour and Mass.

All are invited to participate to pray for the success of the International Eucharistic Congress 2012.

Having been to this Procession a number of times, we would encourage everyone to attend, the people in charge put a great deal of effort into the Procession to make it a reverent and prayerful occasion.

Irish Priests to feature on EWTN

From Monday April 18th to Good Friday April 22nd, five priests from the Diocese of Cloyne will appear on EWTN. The homilies were recorded earlier this year in St. Colman’s Cathedral, Cobh. The 30 minute programmes will also feature chant sung by the Cathedral choirs. The programmes will feature footage of the Cathedral and Cobh town.

The broadcast is scheduled for 10.30 am and 7pm and the priests will appear as follows

Monday: Fr Eamonn Mc Carthy C.C. Coachford,

Tuesday: Fr Jim Moore C.C. Mallow,

Wednesday: Fr John McCarthy C.C. Cobh,

Thursday: Fr Patrick Winkle C.C., Youghal,

Friday: Fr. Pat Scanlan P.P., Castletownroche.

All the priests are excellent preachers and the Cathedral choir is one of the finest in the country. St. Colman’s Cathedral is the most beautiful Cathedral in Ireland and the only one to survive the Liturgical terrorists.
